Turn-based RPGs still make the most sense on a phone
Action RPGs look great in trailers, but on a phone they often turn into a mess of tiny buttons. Turn-based fights, on the other hand, give you time to think and don't punish you for a shaky bus ride.
Hollow Vale Chronicles is a good example of doing it right. The timing twist on attacks keeps you present without demanding perfect reflexes, and you can pause between turns to actually plan.
The writing matters more than people admit. When you care about your party, grinding a few fights doesn't feel like grinding. It feels like spending time with characters you like.
If you've written off RPGs on mobile because of clumsy controls, try a turn-based one. It's the format the small screen was basically made for.
